Its Worth The Wait!!!

I once decided to help a friend with housesitting while she went out of town for two weeks. She had some renovation being done in the house and she didn’t want to leave access to her house with total strangers. (Which seems fair to me)

Anyway, both weeks were good. Everything went as planned.
On the Friday night of week one, I craved for some rice and chicken stew for dinner. I already had some stew stored in the fridge ( don’t tell  her but she’s not the best of cooks so I came prepared). So the only thing left was for me to boil some rice.

Apparently my friend didn’t really give me a tour around the house, she just yelled “I owe you one”! and she flew out the door as soon as i got in. So here I was left to find where everything was on my own. After a few trial and error attempts, I found a cute little saucepan and a bag of rice. I put the rice on fire and realized that I forgot to find the lid for the saucepan. So I turned of the fire and dived into the cabinet in search of it. For a good 5 minutes I couldn’t find it. At this point my patience was running out and so was my growling stomach.

I found a lid that was few inches larger than the actual lid which would have fit perfectly. I turned the fire back on and put the oversized lid on and gave the rice sometime to cook. The final outcome was not exactly how I liked my rice. It was too soft. Since the saucepan wasn’t fully covered the steam alone was not enough to cook it to perfection like I am used to so while it was parboiled I added some more water.
Guess what later I just chanced on right the lid lying in the next cabinet. I would leave you to imagine how angry I was with myself.

In choosing the right future partner, that’s exactly how it can turn out if we don’t take our time to look.  In this story its just rice no big deal! But marriage is a big huge deal! We know exactly what we are looking for but after a while of waiting and praying to God about it we get inpatient and just settle for something close but not exactly it.

"Patience is not only the ability to wait but also keeping a good attitude while you wait"                                                    -Joyce Meyer

Like the story, your rice will cook alright but it will not be how you like it. Therefore you'd eat it but not enjoy it. In other words, you would live in a marriage which is a good thing but you will be unhappy.
Notice, that I later found the perfect lid? See that’s how many people cheat in their marriages. But the funny thing is, while you are married, every other person ceases to become the perfect choice in Gods eye. The one you married is your perfect choice.

I urge you today to be patient, take your time, don’t rush. Decide to work it out with God and get it right once and for all. Sometimes you hear people say no marriage if  fun anyway.... Ha! There are many people who are enjoying their marriages because they made the right choice. Don’t be another contribution to today’s ever increasing divorce rates.
Get it right!

What a little boy thought me without saying a word!

As usual I hopped on a bus from work, home bound drained and ready to pass out. Something different happened this time. I would normally just close my eyes and try and catch a power nap before I got to my stop.

I couldn’t help but notice this time a cute little boy about the age of 2 or 3 years seriously engaged in a conversation with his dad. This little boy and his dad captured my admiration and curiosity as to what they were talking about.
So I screen out all background noises and cast my focus on what they were saying.

Apparently, their conversation was mainly about things going on around us in real time , what they were or why they were there and things like that.

At one point, the little boy asked his dad about an ambulance which passed by and why our bus had to stop. Well dad gave a good reply. I kept watching the little boy because within that few minutes I had spent observing, I knew there was a follow up question….no
lets make that questions.

Dad on the other hand looked really drained and tired and he probably had picked little cute guy from school. His countenance suggested someone not in the mood for a game of  50 questions. Unfortunately for dad, he was asked another question and he hadn’t given an answer. Looks like dad was so lost in his own thought he didn’t hear what his son was saying.

This little boy just kept asking the same question over and over again. At a point he even rephrased his sentence into a summarized version. How cute!
What was even more interesting to me was this little guy’s mood did not change he was still his playful self though he hadn’t gotten his answer yet. Finally dad snaps out of  it and gives him and answer and guess what? The questions kept flowing unbridled.

This little boy reminded me of something that I knew but more so he sealed it on my mind forever. Sometimes we ask God through prayer for things and it seems its not happening and then we give up.
Like the little boy who trusted in his dad who had answered previous questions to answer this particular question that took a little longer, so should we also trust in our God who has been our help in ages past to answer our other requests that seem to be stalling.
Don’t give up keep asking and surely God will answer.

The Old Dog Syndrome

......its said you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

In these times of continuous technological advancement it has  become impetuous to be more willing to learn and  undergo around the clock updating, that is if we really want to be relevant in our society.

Occasionally, I come across people who have become so comfortable with obsolete ways of doing things. They exude such bitterness and anger at the world for advancing and leaving them behind. They are so full of stories about how they were the best at what they did centuries ago and quickly follow up with expressing how everything changed and left them behind. They loathe the younger generation with a passion immeasurable because in their eyes the younger generation robbed them of their glory days.

We live in a world where theories which were once accepted and viewed as schools of thoughts have now been totally annulled and rendered obsolete. Growing up, I have always known that there are 9 planets in the solar system but now its eight. The International Astronomical Union  revised the requirement for “Planethood” and Pluto didn’t make the cut.
Textbooks have been revised and we are all have to move forward with the new findings unless we can prove otherwise.

We all need to painstakingly, avoid what I call the “Old Dog Syndrome” where we refuse to advance with the times. Not to say that these technological advancement don’t come with their own crosses to bear but with a birds eye view the advantages totally supersede its vices. We have to be ever ready to be schooled in one way or the other.

Its very ironic how we are do so well in keeping up with updating the apps on our phones so we can get the best out of it and yet we drag our feet when its time to go for that meeting explaining how to use the newly installed software. It takes a conscious effort and a humble spirit of course.

It shouldn't always be the traditional way of learning, however if we have that readiness to learn new things no matter where we go or who we interact with, it make a ton of difference.

Lets catch up …lets get relevant!!
